Heat tracing is used to stop heat loss from process fluids being transported in process fluid pipes, when there is risk of damage.  It also stops interference with operations such as fouling or blockage, which can be caused by the congealing, an increase in viscosity, or a separation of components, when fluid temperatures go below certain levels.  It can also be used when there is risk of corrosive substances formation, as well as, corrosive services due to water condensation.

Using appropriate insulation materials & metal lagging is vital for insulation to help reduce heat loss from the pipe and tracer.
